Over the past 20 years we have conducted a range of research studies to identify the skill and qualification needs of the tourism, hospitality and leisure sector.  This has included work with National Government Departments and Agencies; Regional Development Agencies; Tourist Boards; Health Authorities and Local Learning and Skills Councils, etc.

Our research work has focused on the development and use of competence checklists, skill audits and performance benchmarking.  This has included the design and development of on-line skill audits and KPI benchmarking tools to identify performance gaps, the barriers to learning and the development needs of employees at all levels.

Development

We have an unrivalled reputation in the tourism, hospitality and leisure sector for the design and development of simple, practical, down to earth and innovative learning materials and tool kits based on our research into industry Best Practice. This has included developing Codes of Best Practice, open and flexible self-study tool kits; video based learning packages; workbooks; Skill DVD's; interactive training games and on-line learning programmes which, with in-company mentoring, will lead to the development of competence in the workplace.

This work has, for example, resulted in the design and development of bespoke learning packages and tool kits for clients such as the Academy of Food and Wine Service; the British Institute of Innkeeping, the Department for Education and Skills; the Government Office for London and the European Catering Association.  Together with help and assistance from the European Commission, and the European Social Fund, we have been able to develop an extensive range of training tool kits across a wide range of industry sectors and occupational groups, including training and continuing professional development for frontline staff, such as chefs; heads of department, corporate managers and managers of SMEs.  We also arrange for the translation of toolkits and training packages.
